Getting around: buses and the airport

Theory

Most Triangle families drive, but the bus network is a useful first step and a money saver. Some systems are fare-free. Chapel Hill Transit is fare-free, GoDurham buses are fare-free through June 2027, GoRaleigh charges $1.25 a ride, and GoTriangle's regional buses cost $2.50 with daily, weekly, and monthly fare caps. Seniors 65+ and youth 13 to 18 can qualify for free fares on GoRaleigh and GoTriangle.

Method

  1. Plan a trip with the GoTriangle trip planner or a maps app.
  2. Pay with the Umo app or an Umo card. On GoRaleigh and GoTriangle, fares count toward shared fare caps.
  3. Check the free and reduced fare programs if you're a senior, a teen, or have a low income.
  4. Flying in or out? Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) sits between Raleigh and Durham, next to RTP.
